We are so thankful to Bay News 9 for telling our story and helping us share our dream. We hope this exposure will inform those that didn’t already know about the need; spread the word to the community that The Rainbow Oasis is on its way; and motivate people to take action! News story originally aired on 6/20/2023.
“My partner of 37 years passed away 5 years ago. Since then it’s just been me and my dog in our condo. It is so hard to live here by myself. I don’t have any friends or family nearby. If I could live in a place like The Rainbow Oasis, I wouldn’t have to worry about hiding my grief or explain myself to anyone. They would just get it. I hope I’ll get to live there one day.” -BW
“Hello. I saw you on Spectrum TV and I think what you’re doing is great! I live in North Carolina and have some concerns for my own safety and well-being here. I have a disability and people take advantage of me a lot. I wish there was something like this near me.” -RT
“I have a friend in Zephyrhills that is living in an ALF. He has been assaulted by his former roommate and it was totally unprovoked. People have made comments about what he wears and does and they complain about him to the Director. I am concerned for my friend, other LGBTQI+ people living in ALF’s, as well as myself when I reach that stage of life.” -JM
“Hi! I just saw you on Bay News 9. You are an angel! I have long talked and thought about a gay retirement home and nursing facility but YOU are actually DOING IT! Thank goodness! I support you completely and would love to help out. I am dedicated to making a way for myself, my partner, and the LGBTQ+ community to have a safe, welcoming and normal golden years where we are like those around us.”. -KD
"My father and I are part of the LGBTQ+ community. He's 67 and has dementia. I'm his caretaker but am not sure how long I can continue to do it. If he has a safe place to live like this, to say he would be thrilled would be an understatement!! Knowing that my dad as well as others have a place to be who they are without fear would be my dream come true." -SI
